About Qdos - Qualification for the Developement of Sport

There is no doubt that Sport and Active Leisure is a growth area in the UK. It is high on the government’s agenda both in relationship to the 2012 Olympics and the legacy that will come from the games. It forms an important part of government targets for a healthier nation. As an extremely successful Sports and Applied Learning College we are delighted to be able to offer post 16 students, with an interest in pursuing a career in this rapidly expanding sector, a range of new and exciting applied courses in Sport and Active Leisure, delivered from our new state of the art £2.6 million Qdos Centre.

The Qdos Centre provides an adult environment for sixth form students combining the high standards of teaching and learning that has come to be expected from The Castle School along with close partnerships with employers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industries. In addition to the Sport and Active Leisure Diplomas which are available, there is also the unique opportunity to take part in Apprenticeships programmes in Sport which will allow you to be employed in the industry at the same time as studying for qualifications. The courses on offer provide a natural progression from many of the courses we have led pre 16 such as the Young Apprenticeship in Sports Management, Leadership and Coaching as well as other Sporting qualifications that are being taken in schools across the area.

We work closely within the Taunton Deane and West Somerset Consortium of schools and colleges to ensure that all students have a post 16 experience which will allow them to grow as individuals and make a successful transition into higher education or work as a result of their studies. Close cooperation between ourselves and other post 16 providers will mean that courses in the Qdos Centre can be combined with traditional ‘A’ level courses and other applied courses. This variety will put students in a very strong position to move on to higher education or employment, either in the sporting sector, or as a springboard into a wider variety of careers or degree level courses. Students at The Qdos Centre will be part of a specialised post 16 centre which is small enough for each student to be known well as an individual but with the benefit of being part of a larger consortium of colleges, which can offer a greater breadth of experiences.

Post 16 education is also a time for students to expand their horizons, to socialise and have fun. The Qdos centre incorporates a large social area and there are many opportunities for enrichment activities not only in sport but in a wide variety of other areas. A strong tutorial programme and 1:1 support and guidance will enable us to help all students to aim high and to achieve their ambitions.

It is a very exciting time for us and we hope you will join us at the start of this new era in education.
