Apprenticeship in Coaching, Teaching and Instructing
Level 2

Entry Requirements:

Students should usually have a suitable apprenticeship placement with an employer. The school will provide guidance to assist students in finding suitable apprenticeship placements. And:
• A Foundation Diploma Or
• 5 GCSEs at grades D -E including English and Maths Or
• 5 GCSEs at grades D-E and Functional Skills at level 1 in
English and Maths

Duration of Course: usually one year part time

Course Content:

Apprenticeships in the Active Leisure Sector have been designed to present opportunities for you to develop a mix of practical and technical skills that will allow you to both develop at work and, where applicable, progress to higher education. Apprentices ‘learn on the job’, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money at the same time. It includes National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Key Skill qualifications and a range of Technical Certificates which give the underpinning knowledge necessary to achieve the NVQ and allow for broader learning and development opportunities.

Examples of other Technical Certificates which could be offered are:

• Level 2 Certificate in Industry and Organisational Awareness for the Active Leisure and Learning Industry (Mandatory)
• Specific sport/coaching qualifications at either level 1 or 2
• Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
• Level 2 Certificate in Instructing Circuit Sessions

How will you be taught and assessed?

You will be assessed in the NVQ and technical certificates. The NVQ will be a coursework based portfolio, gathering evidence from your placement to meet the criteria. Technical certificates will be activity specific and include written and practical examinations.

Career opportunities and progression:

The two most likely progression routes are:

1. Employment: a placement employer will often offer you a full
time job at the end of your apprenticeship or your qualifications
and experience could get you a job elsewhere
2. Further Training: your apprenticeship can lead to further training
such as an Advanced Apprenticeship, Sport & Active Leisure
Diploma or University.
